Al-Qaeda in Yemen (AQY), later known as al-Qaeda in the Southern Arabian Peninsula (AQSAP) from March 2008 onwards, was a Sunni Islamist militant organization which operated as al-Qaeda's local affiliate in Yemen. The group operated in two iterations; once between 1998 and 2003, and from 2006 to 2009.
